THEATRE

OH, CAROL
(2016)

Oh, Carol is inspired by Repulsion, one of Roman Polanski’s most intense films and part of his Apartment Trilogy, which uses small living spaces as settings for dark psychological stories.

The story follows two sisters, Carol and Hélène, who emigrated to an unnamed English-speaking country. Carol is mysterious and fearful, seeming to sleepwalk through life. When Hélène leaves for Pisa, Carol is left alone in their rundown apartment and begins to see shadows—ghosts from past and present that slowly drive her toward madness.

In Oh, Carol, Izak explores theatrical illusions and delusions through text, visuals, stylized audio, and lighting. The performance examines the dark side of the human mind and tells a story about the invisible, devastating traumas of a woman in a male-dominated world.
